IMD130-Music Website in Flash

Okay, it's no secret that I've been having trouble with this course.  I mean, I can do everything expected of me...but until now, I've found great difficulty applying the required programming to my level of creative design.  Flash is NOT an easy concept for me to grab for some reason.

However, we finally got the green light to tap into our design creativity and create the design interface using the instructor's pre-determined theme:  A Music Website relating to a specific genre of our choice, featuring a specific artist or group of our choice.

Damn!  I could come up with so many I'd like to create a site around, but decided upon my fav. group of all time, Oka.  (surprised?  I'm not.)

So we only had to design the home page first, because the checkpoint due on Saturday is only requiring a home page thus far.  However, we DO have to apply some sort of flash animation element to the page and submit the SWF file to the instructor by Saturday.  As we are learning more techniques for implementing Flash to webpages in Wednesday's class, I decided to create the interface in Photoshop, and concentrate on the Flash on Wednesday, when I can call upon my instructor for any help I might need.

But...if you know me well enough, you also know that this Photoshop queen couldn't WAIT to get to the designing part, and next thing you know...I have every single page of the site designed.  This means, I'm pretty much WAAAY ahead of schedule, and can now focus on making this site all that it can be in...*GULP*... Flash.

So, here are the .jpeg files illustrating my design thus far (minus any and all Flash action).

the HOME page will illustrates the genre of music that I chose, World Music as well as the decorative tiles that will slide up behind the navigation links upon scrollover.  They will not initially be seen spread out together all at one time as they are shown here.

the ARTIST page, featuring Oka with a Bio that I authored for this project.  You like the kangaroo in the banner?  Oka is native to Australia.  Just HAD to.  Couldn't resist!

this is the DISCOGRAPHY page where the images (thumbnails) of each album that Oka ever put out will hopefully be scrolling back and forth as a "call to action" item designed in Flash.  There is one more album here, which falls off screen because after all...this is a still image.  Also,  the stop and play buttons are featured at the top of the page will also serve as a "call to action" item, prompting the user to play and listen to a song clip by my artist.

this is the MEDIA page (the last page on the site) where images of the players in Oka appear as well as a YouTube video which will be embedded.  Oka has this really awesome music video that they flung up on YouTube that really gives a feel for one of their best songs set to the coastal Australian environment in which they live and play.

Whew! That's what I say to Project #2!

As I wipe the sweat off of my brow, I'm pleased to announce that I've nearly made it through Project 2 in Interactive Design Concepts!  We had to create a concept board in Illustrator (since I can't afford the program just yet, I used Photoshop - my software of choice always) as well as a wireframe.  As this class here at Ai-Atlanta is the first introduction to most web design student in constructing wireframes, I am certainly not new to the process.  We had to design so many of these in classes back at the Art Institute of California-Hollywood.  The concept board is a new thing to me.  Though I had to design and put a similar physical project together for submission at Ai-Hollywood, it appears as if Ai-Atlanta moreso hones  in on your digital design submission.  whew!  Thank you, God!  I'd much rather avoid the printing and art supply store costs, not to mention the extra time and effort that goes into putting together such a project.  This means I have more time to spend in photoshop fine-tuning my project and designing away!  I'm very pleased with the finished product; however, I'm still having trouble getting the links to work on my student website.  bummer.  I hope to trouble shoot that A.S.A.P.  For the life of me...I can't figure out what I did wrong in the coding.

Anyway...here are my projects in all their glory!  Click on the images to view larger in your browser.

Personal Logo

We are forced to create our own personal logo in school. I HATE logos. I try so hard but I seem to be lacking that logo-deisgn sense of creativity. Of all things! Anyhow, I'm pretty pleased with this one!

I know...amateur hour.  Let's just say Illustrator isn't as fun as Photoshop for me.
